On November 26, our family received the devastating news that my father, Virgil Heinrich, was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. This diagnosis came as a profound shock, especially given the aggressive nature of this disease. Our hearts have been heavy as we navigate this unexpected and difficult journey, but we are choosing to walk forward in faith.

Virgil has always lived a life rooted in service and compassion. He has never been one to ask for help, but has consistently been the one offering it to others. Over the years, he has donated food from their garden to families in need, traveled throughout South Dakota, North Dakota, and Minnesota to support food banks and homeless shelters, and participated in missionary work by sharing literature in prisons and within the community. Together with my mother, he has also lovingly helped care for and babysit their grandchildren. Serving others has always been a reflection of his faith and heart for God.

Though this diagnosis is overwhelming, we firmly believe that God is still at work. We know that miracles are possible, and we continue to trust in His plan, even when the path ahead is uncertain.

Unfortunately, health insurance often does not cover many supportive and holistic treatment options that could provide comfort and additional care. In addition, there are many unknown medical needs and expenses we anticipate in the coming months.

After nearly two weeks in the hospital, my father was recently discharged and is thankful to be home. While we are grateful for this step forward, his healing journey is far from over. There have already been several frightening moments, yet through it all, we continue to lean on God’s strength, grace, and healing power.

This situation has placed significant financial strain on our family. My mother is unable to return to work, my sister has taken a three-month leave of absence, and I have taken extended time off work to help care for our father. The growing out-of-pocket medical expenses and daily living costs have become overwhelming.

We humbly ask for support during this challenging season. Any contribution, no matter the amount, will help relieve the financial burden and allow our family to focus on caring for my father and trusting God through this journey.
