Our father, Michael G. Reynolds, went in for a triple bypass surgery on Dec. 27, 2016, and was sent home after a week of recovery time in the hospital. In home care specialist were assigned and stopped in to assist with Dad's healing, which was a big help for him and our stepmother, Dorian.
On January 23, 2017, dad wasn't feeling well, and went to the hospital again to be checked out. His blood pressure was high, and there appeared to be an infection. He was kept there until January 27.
Approximately 14-hours later, the infection became worse, and started oozing from his chest area. He was rushed, by ambulance to the hospital; taken in for surgery again, where they removed his breast plate to treat the large infection. He then had to have surgery, days later, to rebuild and replace said breast plate. He has since spent time not only in that hospital, but also two other critical care hospitals; however, on February 23, he returned to the hospital where the surgeries were performed due to elevated blood pressure, which lead to the diagnosis of TTP, throbotic thombocytepenic purpura, a rare blood disorder, in which blood clots form in the small blood vessels throughout the body, which uses up platelets in the blood. Platelets are blood cell fragments that help form blood clots. The blood has lower than normal number of platelets, and can be fatel if dropped too low.
Dad has been treated for the TTP with plasma-paresis, which is where they transfuse good, healthy blood for his not so good blood. He has also been on dialysis to assist his kidney function, as the TTP had burdened them also; as of now, his kidneys are good, and the Doctors are not running this, but are continuing to monitor him. Another test they ran, was to draw bone marrow to check for how well the blood was being produce with the needed plasma, and any sign of cancer.
They found that the blood production was good, and dad does not have cancer.
Physical therapist have also been working with dad, to bring his strength up.
Our dad and stepmom, do have medicare; however, these will not cover the expenses that have already come in, and the onslaught of bills they have still yet to receive..
Donations are needed as-soon-as-possible, and will be used to help our parents with the mounting bills and future medical/therapy to come.
Anything will help.
Our family would like to thank you all in advance, and ask that you also continue to keep our dad in your thoughts and prayers.
