Help Petal Fight Metastatic Lung Cancer — A Life That Still Has So Much Joy to Live
On February 26th, just days before my birthday on March 3rd, I received news that turned my world upside down: my soul friend, my first dog, my emotional support animal, and 24/7 companion, Petal, had a massive tumor in her right lung. Since then, I’ve been devastated — and so many of you on social media who love Petal too have asked me to start this GoFundMe. So here it is.
After multiple trips to the oncologist and several vet visits for secondary issues, we now know it’s metastatic lung cancer. We’ve already spent over $3,000 since her diagnosis — and are still paying off over $15,000 in vet bills from the past few years, when Petal faced multiple, unrelated emergencies. One of those was her first cancer journey: osteochondrosarcoma — a rare bone cancer in her jaw that led to a partial mandibulectomy surgery two years ago.
Though the surgery left clean margins and was thought to be curative, a recent CT scan and biopsy have confirmed the worst: the cancer has returned, spreading to her lungs. There is a large tumor and several suspected metastases or spots. Despite everything, Petal is still full of life. She’s happy, loving, joyful — truly an incredible soul.
Petal has truly defied the odds. There have been profound, even spiritual, miracles that have saved her life—moments that felt guided, beyond explanation. I hope to share those stories soon on my social media, as many of you have asked. She is not just resilient—she’s a miracle dog, and anyone who has met her can feel the light she carries.
We love Petal like a daughter and I can’t imagine life without her. She has been my support through severe PTSD & saved me in many ways. We’re doing everything we can to give her more quality time — more walks on the mountain, splashes in the river, a trip to the ocean she so misses, and more moments of pure joy.
Her doctors have recommended palliative radiation to shrink the main large tumor and improve her comfort and quality of life.
We’ve exhausted our resources, but we’ve committed to start palliative radiation on May 2, 2025. The treatment will cost at least $4,500, not including travel and accommodations, which are necessary for her care.
Petal is also on a holistic regimen to support her immune system and needs regular vet checkups to manage emerging secondary conditions. We hope to begin ozone therapy, and have been advised to purchase an at-home unit — approximately $1,500 with all the necessary components.
Our immediate goal is to raise funds for her radiation treatment. But ultimately, we’re hoping to fund all the care Petal needs to live out her life with as much peace, comfort, and happiness as possible.
Petal is not just a dog—she is family. Her life matters as deeply as any human loved one’s would. If you feel moved to support her, even a few dollars helps us get closer to helping petal.
Thank you for reading, for sharing, for caring — and for believing in a love strong enough to fight for a miracle.
