Deloris is a fighter and no stranger to cancer. In October 2013, she was diagnosed with Stage II aggressive Breast Cancer. She fought and won.
April 2014 she was declared Cancer Free and went on to live as normal of a life as any would try to do.
April 2015, after 1 full year of remission, Deloris knew she was expecting but waited till June to annouce to family and friends, her little miracle baby on the way! He was the baby she didnt think she could ever have. 38 weeks of uncertainty. high risk complications and then later severe complications towards the end of pregnancy, she didnt want anything to steal her joy, because she knew God would not fail her.
During the beginning of her third trimester, she had extreme back pain that caused her to not be able to walk at times. Her sons father would have to physically move her, help her dress and get in and out of the bath. The doctors said it was normal. She had severe headaches that would keep her in tears, the doctors said it was normal. She had a horrible pain in her jaw, the dentist found a cavity, pulled the tooth but the pain never went away. He said it was normal.
The enemy thought he had her! Turns out everywhere the pain was hiding, were actually tumours. She has several in her spine, three of which have caused fractures in her vertebrea, the worst being T6 which has collapsed. One in her skull, on the brain but not in, exactly where her migraines are. One in her right mandible. Thankfully, no major organs have been effected by the new return of cancer!
The night after giving birth to her son Connor, Deloris couldnt walk. Her sons dad, having seen this all before, called the doctors and the nurses to the room. They had said this condition was a rare anamoly of pregnancy and would go away. After seeing her condition they ordered CT scans and MRIs. Deloris held her son that night waiting for simple answer to come in the morning.
7am came fast! After enjoying their first night of no sleep, the sun came up and everything was perfect. The doctos came in and said she had some news. She said it was bad. Deloris said "Bad? Is it pneumonia? What is bad?" The doctor then replied, "Call all of your family. Do you have any religous preferences? We can get a chaplain in here right away". She grabbed her sleeping baby and laid in the arms of his dad.
"Well, whats next"?, she thought, "How much time do I have to spend with my son"? "How much time can you buy me"
Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer is what they've called it.....BUT GOD...
So, Deloris has called it, "Buying time". After all, we are all just buying time! Life itself is terminal. Unfailing faith keeps her going.
She posted on her instagram page, the first real picture of her son "I believe in miracles. I'll take a walk to remember, through steel magnolias under the fault in our stars, even through the fire". A dedication to her son.
She got her miracle...his name is Connor Josiah.
