Dear Friends,
Our daughter needs your help!
Deborah joined our family at birth through adoption; she is now 18. Two years ago she was diagnosed with a rare, terminal, genetic disease called Juvenile onset Huntington's Disease, a condition that affects its victims both mentally and physically. Life expectancy is usually 10 - 15 years from onset of symptoms, but Deb is a special case.
Deb's health has declined dramatically since diagnosis in July 2014. However, we began seeing questionable signs as early as age 10 - 11. No medical professional has been able to offer even the slightest glimmer of hope through the whole course of this nightmare ... until NOW.
We have been in touch with Dr. Gordon Crozier of eastern Florida, a physican who specializes in genetic therapy who has had some significant success at arresting the disease which has actually "turned back the clocks" on this onslaught for its victims.
It has been determined that Deb will need 2 - 3 IV treatments per week for a period of no less than 6 - 12 weeks (1st phase). With the treatments being quite costly, we have estimated our out-of-pocket expenses to be $50,000. Our goal is for our daughter to complete the regimen, regain her health, and begin to move forward with her life.
Until she was hit with this diagnosis, Deb had wonderul dreams of becoming a nurse so she could help others. She had expressed an additional hope of serving our country in the military. When she received the news that she had the same disease that claimed the life of her birth mother, her birth grandfather, and her birth uncle, she was completely devastated. Her ability to communicate, walk, and think clearly were all starting to decline by age 18.
We believe in miracles! It's no accident that we were connected with Dr. Crozier. Not only is it not accidental, it truly is a miracle in process. We are humbled and in awe of this opportunity and believe that everything we need is already on its way through the many people like you who are already standing with us. We are grateful beyond words.
Deb has been planning to attend her prom on May 20th at The School of the Holy Childhood in Henrietta where she attends. That evening, immediately following the dance, she will be leaving for Florida to assure that she will be there in time for her first appointment with the specialist on the 23rd. Her local pediatrician has already ordered all of the required lab tests for Dr. Crozier as treatments will start right away.
Our pursuit to get Deb the help she needs is nothing more than what any other parent would do for their own child. Our attitude has and will continue to be, "Whatever it takes, we'll do it!"
THANK YOU for your consideration in making a donation. Please know that it means the world to us to have people like you join the team as we fight for our young daughter's life.
"Deborah's Miracle Fund" has been set up through our church, Celebrate! Family Church. Please visit the website, www.icelebrate.org/miracle, for further information.
