On Monday February 23, Madeline was shot in the face and was rushed to the hospital lucky to be alive. The doctors and nurses all said she is truly a miracle since the bullet barely grazed her carotid artery. The bullet entered her upper lip, down the right side of the upper and lower jaw, through her neck and out her back. She lost all of her teeth in the front and most on the right side of her face. She had surgery to fix the multiple fractures and had to have a tracheostomy. We spent four days in Trauma ICU and we are still in the hospital with a long recovery ahead. Madeline is learning how to speak through the trachea and building the muscles in her lips. Unfortunately, because of the damage she will not be able to feel her bottom lip. Other surgeries are in her near future as well as PT and Speech Therapy. They will have to take bone from her hip to replace the plates in her jaw. Once all of that is healed, she will be able to replace her lost teeth. She will need ongoing counseling to help her mental wellbeing. Madeline is looking forward to the day she can get back to work, she misses her kids at the preschool. Please spread the word and share this campaign.
