This is a fund set up to support our friends Ryan and Sharon, and their newborn Tristan.
On April 27th, 2017, while on vacation in Vancouver (a little over 4,000KMs from their home in Burlington, Ontario) after Sharon had been feeling quite ill for a couple of days with what was diagnosed as a 24 hour flu by doctor, Sharon and Ryan elected to go to St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver for fear of the wellness of their yet-to-be-born son. While the staff at St. Paul's investigated the cause of Sharon's illness, they were monitoring the heartrate of the baby. When the baby's heartrate suddenly disappeared, the staff kicked into high gear and had to perform an emergency C-section. Sharon and unborn baby, only 29 weeks into term, were whisked away from Ryan while he waited with baited breath. A few minutes later, the neonatal intensive care staff brought out Ryan's handsome baby boy, Tristan, born at 29 weeks to meet his dad. Ryan was overcome with joy at his son, but his attention turned to Sharon - how was she?
During the emergency C-section, it was discovered that Sharon had twisted bowels and was quite ill from the effects and was in surgery herself, life saving surgery in fact. Had Sharon's state not been discovered for another few hours, she may not have lived - Tristan's emergency birth may have saved his mommy's life.
They are now on the road to recovery, but Ryan, Sharon and Tristan will be displaced in Vancouver for at least a couple of months. More than 4,000 kms separate them from friends and most of their family (newly minted grandparents have already flown out to lend support). But they will face many costs over the next couple months, needing lodging, food and supplies.
Sharon and Tristan are also set up in 2 different hospitals right now, so Sharon is separated from her beautiful baby boy for the next 10 days or so while she recovers herself.
So, some of their friends have set up this fund to help them through the first few months of their (unexpectedly early) chapter in their lives!
