We Believe In Miracles

The past week has been a roller coaster, to say the least. Ultimately, Peter defied all odds and expectations. For the past seven days, a horde of doctors and nurses have told me that he probably wouldn't make it. I literally watched him die TWICE this week. Not to mention the other two times he flatlined when I wasn’t there. A total of four organs were in failure at some point and they feared he would have irreparable brain damage. All this as a result of a horrible one-in-a-million adverse reaction to the chemo he had just started to treat colon cancer.
But, here we are, just one week later, off of life support, and he is leaving ICU in the next two days. In addition to Peter’s warrior spirit, I attribute his miraculous recovery not only to the amazing team of professionals at BCH that saved him...over and over again, but also to the unbelievable outpouring from loved ones who showered us with love, prayers, messages, and support. Do not underestimate the healing power this had on Pete.
So many people have reached out to see what they can do to help. Now I have an answer... I know from several heated conversations that he and I have had since the original cancer diagnosis, that it brings Pete great stress to think about not being able to provide for his home and family as a result of illness. I assured him that I would get a third and even a fourth job if that is what it took. Now after everything we have seen this week, I am certain that my place is by his side, caring for him in every way possible.
I will definitely still be working at the newspaper. My bosses are amazing and are allowing me to work from home so I can care for Pete. (honestly, I don’t even want to let him out of my sight right now) But it’s still a part time gig and does not cover Pete’s former income or our household expenses. As much as I struggled with resorting to a fundraising effort of any kind, the best way for you to help us is to contribute whatever you are able, however small, to this fund to provide the financial means for him to be secure and provided for during a very crucial recovery & healing phase.
I don’t want Pete stressed by the perceived need to care for his family. Together, with this amazing network of friends and family, we can assimilate our resources to provide for Pete so he can focus all his energy on furthering this miracle recovery.
I barely have words to express my gratitude for all the loving gestures, prayer circles, uplifting messages, healing intentions, and every other thread that all our loved ones have woven into the fabric of love and support that is all around us. From the very depth of my soul, I thank you. So does Pete. We are blessed to have you.
