Hello everyone, my name is Talia and I am fundraising for my dearest friend and co-worker Sandra Szabo and her Grandson, Oaklend. On December 24, what started out as a regular Tuesday work day for the Beer Store Contact Centre, took an unbelievably shocking turn just shortly after 11 am. What began as numbness on the right side of her face, quickly turned into an emergency room trip to University Hospital via ambulance. We all feared the worst; thinking it was a stroke, but we were not prepared for the devastating news to follow. After multiple tests, we had our answer - A stage 4 Glioblastoma in her brain, a very aggressive form of brain cancer. Thus began the beginning of an unimaginable difficult journey. On December 27, Sandra had brain surgery to remove as much of the tumour as they could, which went very well. She spent a total of 6 days in the hospital and was sent home Monday December 30 with a skull full of staples, but did Oaklend, Frankie and Marshall ever miss her. The staples were removed on January 9 and this is when the real fight was to begin -- as her first round of radiation and chemotherapy are scheduled to start January 22 at LHSC in London. We would love to help and support her in anyway that we can and not having to worry about paying bills, where groceries will come from and any unexpected expenses that may come up while she fights for her life. If you wish to send a gift card or e-transfer directly please contact me and I will make arrangements to pick it up. I will ensure that I pass them along to the family, thank you. I want to thank all of you for your thoughtful gesture to this exceptionally kind, caring woman and her Grandson, in their time of need.
