Hi my name is Laura.
My friend Kelly McBride and her sweet heart dog Mack needs your help.
Mack is only 1 year old, N.S Duck Tolling Retriever, look at that sweet face!
Mack was diagnosed with IBD and PLE.
Of course she was devasted!
Maintaining a dog with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and Protein-Losing Enteropathy (PLE) is costly, often requiring specialized, long-term care that can range from $300 to over $600+ per month in ongoing expenses, excluding initial diagnosis or emergency visits.
Based on typical treatments, here is a breakdown of monthly costs:
1. Specialized Diet ($100 – $250+ per month)
Dogs with IBD/PLE often require hydrolyzed protein or extreme low-fat prescription diets.
Dry Food: High-end prescription diets can cost over $135 for a large bag, lasting about 5-6 weeks for a 65lb dog.
Wet Food: Generally pricier, potentially adding $50 to $150+ extra per month.
Examples: Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Low Fat or Hydrolyzed Protein, Hill's i/d Digestive Care.
2. Medications & Supplements ($100 – $200+ per month)
PLE often requires stronger immunosuppressants than IBD alone.
Immunosuppressants/Steroids: Medications like Chlorambucil or Cyclosporine, along with Prednisone, can be expensive, with some reporting $60 for 20 pills of Chlorambucil alone.
Stomach Meds/Supplements: Probiotics, anti-nausea meds, and vitamins can add up to $75-$100/month.
3. Veterinary Monitoring ($100 – $200+ per month, averaged)
Blood Work/Albumin Testing: Dogs with PLE require regular, often quarterly, albumin checks to monitor protein levels.
Routine/Specialist Visits: Frequent exams and potential ultrasound monitoring can cost over $1,300 per year, or $100+ per month.
Needless to say this was absolutely heartbreaking news for Kelly to hear about her sweet heart dog Mack so to take some of the financial pressure and put all her effort and time for he on her sweet boy I am setting up this Go Fund Me page.
Any and I mean any amount will help.
We like to thank you all for your time and support
