Hi, my name is Mira. I'm 12 years old and I have Celiac Disease. When I was in Kindergarten my stomach started hurting and would hurt a lot worse than a typical stomach ache and no one knew why. It made me cry a lot and wake up in pain and tears. I went to Children's Hospital and they helped me discover that I had Celiac Disease. Now I don't have to worry about stomach aches coming out of nowhere and they taught me how to live with Celiac Disease and take care of myself. Children's Hospital changed my life and I do not know what I would have done without Children’s Hospital being able to help me so quickly.
I'm going to become a Bat Mitzvah soon and I am choosing to do a mitzvah project. A mitzvah project is a community service project I get to choose to help give back and demonstrate my growing into adulthood in the Jewish tradition. Since I love being with kids and because Children’s Hospital means so much, I have chosen to volunteer and give back to Children's hospital.
You know how when you were little you would hear a weird noise or there would be a thunderstorm and you would hide underneath your blanket and feel more safe? My plan is to make blankets to help Children’s Hospital’s program and so they can give kids a blanket to make them feel safe and secure too when they are in the hospital. My goal is to make 100 blankets but I need your help! I am hoping you will help me reach my goal by donating money, gift cards or coupons that will go towards buying fabric to make the blankets for these kids. I also plan on leading a craft day at the hospital and any donations will also help go to purchase crafts for me to prepare and bring in so that the kids in the hospital have a fun day too and remember what it is like to feel normal and not always in pain!
