We are looking to raise funds for this year's Minneapolis People’s Pride! People’s Pride is an annual event in Powderhorn Park, intended to be a space for any and all queer folks to experience joy, eat food, trade art, and various other activities. Making space for, and feeding, queer joy and happiness is a radical act of resistance which both uplifts the community and resists white supremesist heteropatriarchy. We explicitly aim to create a space for rest, collaboration, and love which centers those most marginalized and affected by systemic xenophobia. “Rest is a meticulous love practice” ~ @thenapministry
This event will be sober friendly, we will not provide nor serve any alcoholic beverages on site. People’s pride does not and will not have cops of any sort. Members of the police and those who unjustly enforce power ~ Jacob Frey, Tim Waltz, etc are not welcome at Minneapolis people’s pride. This event is specifically non corporate; we do not accept money, resources, or any other sort of sponsorship from corporations. Being non corporate is an intentional and political decision. Corporate greed has no place in the queer community. Queer liberation will not be sponsored! That being said, as People’s Pride has free food/drink, performing artists, and no admission fee we rely on the support of the community. This year we are looking to pay for food and drinks for people, permits, performers, and an acccessible on-site porta potty. We can still make the event work with 1,000 dollars but are hoping to make a fund for future events and make sure we don’t have to dig too deep into our not so deep pockets.
To be clear, Minneapolis People’s Pride is not associated with the corporate sponsored Twin Cities Pride, it is an alternative event free of police that is geared towards achieving an actual safe space for queers folks to celebrate themselves.
If anyone has questions about the future of people’s pride or would like to be involved please contact the Instagram page @mplspeoplespride or the email of this gofundme :)
