Ministering to Somalian Refugees!

Hello Everyone! My name is Alex(andra) Hammond, and this spring I will be headed to Minneapolis, Minnesota to do ministry work with Somalian refuges and neighbouring Native American Reservations. Minneapolis homes the greatest number of Somalians outside of Somalia. Many of the refugee congragations are dejected, and crave support. I personally have a big beating heart for Somalia and have since I was enlightened on the state of the nation about a year ago. They have been torn apart by violence and fear as an aftermath of the war in 1991. As well, Christianity is despised there and all followers of Christ are persecuted to the fullest degree. We burn to help Somalians in any manner feasible!

Additionally, reservations are known nationally to be depleted of hope and sustainable wealth, as these people have been stripped of their land and left to suffer the consequences. The percentage of poverty on reserves varies from 38% to 63%, and we will have many opportunities for food/resource distribution on this mission. With ambitious hearts to serve and love like Jesus, we are expecting a true shift in atmosphere!

I feel overwhelmingly blessed for this opportunity to serve, as I am taking this season for school rather than being out in the missions felid. It brings my much peace that I will have this chance to attend to my neighbours and bring peace to our nation in a time such as this!
