The Mini Mocs Youth track club was founded in 2010 by Coach Albert Gipp of Lawrence, Kansas. The founding cohort of Mini Mocs athletes were Coach Gipp's grandchildren and their friends. These aspiring tracksters took their first meet by storm, clenching victories in running and throwing events alike. This first meet ignited a fire in these young athletes who were soon gathering regularly to practice track at a local middle school.
For eight summers the Mini Mocs Track club meets twice a week at Billy Mills Middle School in Lawrence, Kansas to run, jump, throw and grow together...and my how we have grown! From a handful of family and friends to team of over 50 athletes.
Staffed by community volunteers, parents and student-athletes from Haskell Indian Nations University Mini Mocs Track Club has developed it's fair share of champions but most importantly the program fosters healthy active living for Lawrence's young athletes and their families.
Each summer the Mini Mocs Track Program grows in numbers. The program is unique to the Lawrence community because it provides a fun and safe atmosphere for ALL children ages 4-18 regardless of ability or prior experience at NO COST to the family.
A Mini Mocs Trackster can expect to receive instruction and encouragement in Track & Field events, participate in 2 home meets over the course of the summer and after attending 4 practice sessions earn the coveted Mini Mocs Team shirt.
Keeping Mini Mocs a NO COST to families program is paramount to the programs growth and success. Funds raised during this campaign will keep the Mini Mocs program "running" for many more summers to come.
Funds will be utilized to provide timing for meets, incentives for tracksters, track shoes for families in need, meet entry fees and traveling funds for Mini Mocs who qualify for the United States Track and Field Junior Olympic Regional and National Meets. This year the Mini Mocs program has seven athletes, all from that first cohort of kids, who have qualified for the USATF Regional Meet in Little Rock, Arkansas. Many of our young athletes are training to compete in the Sunflower State Games this summer! With the help of donors near and far, The Mini Mocs Track club hopes to meet their financial goal by July 4, 2018!
Low cost sports programs are hard to find. NO COST sports programs are almost unheard of. Please help keep Mini Mocs a NO COST program by contributing financially to this campaign.
