Mindy Means to Fight Cancer

“MINDY… MEANS… TO… FIGHT… CANCER!!!”

I’m writing on behalf of my dear friend, Mindy Means of Farmers Branch, Texas.

Mindy is a kind, compassionate lady, funny, hard-working and has a passion for animals. She’s that lady who would go without a meal in order to feed a homeless cat or stop traffic in a busy intersection to rescue a wandering dog. She’s everyone’s favorite aunt or sister.

Last month, Mindy was diagnosed with stage 1, invasive breast cancer - just four weeks after losing her job and health insurance. There’s never a good time to be told “you have breast cancer”, but, for Mindy, this couldn’t have come at a worse time.

Fighting cancer under the best of circumstances is hard, but with her current circumstances, it is overwhelming. Mindy is facing this tremendous financial burden on her own, while trying to remain strong and positive during the fight. She is scheduled for surgery next week, and has been informed that without insurance the hospital bill alone will be in the neighborhood of $26,000! Her after-surgery treatment plan consists of radiation and possibly chemotherapy. The cost for these treatments along with her everyday living expenses while going through this battle will surely be more than she can manage.
Even under these circumstances, Mindy remains hopeful.
