Mindful Grieving Yoga Therapy Teacher Training

Hello! I’m Maribeth Doerr and I am humbly asking for your support to help me pay for Mindful Grieving Yoga Therapy Teacher Training.

I am a bereaved mother, a bereaved sister, a bereaved daughter, and a bereaved auntie. Like most people on the planet, I have grieved over pets, jobs, illnesses and injuries, and some serious traumas. I have found over the last 30+ years is that reaching out to other grieving hearts helps my heart heal.

And so in 1988, in that quest for connection and meaning-making, I started a bereaved parents’ network called Pen-Parents which connected parents with each other to exchange letters and phone calls. Those parents were some of the bravest people I’ve ever met. Since then, I became a certified creative grief coach and a certified baby loss doula. I’ve also taken hospice volunteer training and trained with the Twilight Brigade. I’ve facilitated support groups, helped families plan memorials, helped families create birth plans when they know their baby will be stillborn or die shortly after birth and I’ve been a doula for such families as well. I’ve worked one-on-one with bereaved folks who are looking for someone to witness their grief and help them bridge the gap between their grief and living wholeheartedly. I’ve also been a hospice volunteer and helped dying patients create their memorial plans and listened to their stories. I feel honored to work with the bereaved and dying, and in doing so, I’ve honored my loved ones. No one should ever have to walk this horrible path alone.

In 2014, I started yoga teacher training with the idea that I would create a yoga for grief program. Over the years, I discovered how valuable yoga was for my physical and emotional health, and it just seemed that yoga and grief go together. Throughout my training, I really hadn’t planned to teach traditional yoga classes. However, I found that I truly enjoy teaching, especially teaching folks who have felt unwelcome in traditional yoga or fitness classes because they weren’t young enough or thin enough or flexible enough, etc. Last summer, I became a certified Accessible Yoga teacher, and it fits my niche so well. I also have training in gentle yoga, chair yoga, yoga for arthritis, prenatal yoga, and Yoga for Eating Disorders.

But . . . I still have that dream to teach yoga to bereaved folks. I know how much yoga helps a hurting heart. I’ve tried some yoga and grief programs and classes but didn’t feel connected to any of them. And then I discovered the Mindful Grieving Yoga Teacher Training . There was an instant gut reaction that told me this was what I have been looking for. I applied for a scholarship, had a wonderful conversation with the program director, Wendy Black Stern, and I just KNOW this is the key to coming full circle in my trainings since I completed my training with the Creative Grief Studio in 2012. This dream of mine has been nearly 10 years in the making.

The program costs $2999. I have received a partial scholarship, but I still need $2000 to pay for the balance. I need to have this by September 15. This six-month program begins in October and finishes in March 2022. Please consider helping me bring mindful grieving yoga to my Reno/Sparks community and online to those who need it. Anything extra raised will be used to pay for renewing my yoga teacher liability insurance and for equipment to teach online.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your positive thoughts, prayers, suggestions, and monetary contributions. Please reach out to me with your comments, suggestions, and questions.

In gratitude and love,

Maribeth Doerr
