On 10th August, the island of São Vicente in Cape Verde was hit by torrential rains that turned the streets into rivers of destruction.

Twelve lives were lost, hundreds of families were left homeless, and entire neighbourhoods were reduced to rubble.

The heart of the island is wounded, but keeps beating, and needs your help.

Among the most affected is the family of one of our selectas, who lives in Ribeira Bote, a historic neighbourhood of Mindel, where the Mindel Reggae Family has held four major Sound System events over the past four years.

His father’s house was completely destroyed.

Next door, a neighbour lost her child.

The pain and loss are profound, but the strength to start again is greater than anything.

Reggae is not just music. It is community. It is resistance. It is love in action.

Today, our mission is to help Mindel rise again.

No dia 10 de Agosto, a ilha de São Vicente, em Cabo Verde, foi atingida por chuvas torrenciais que transformaram as ruas em rios de destruição.

Perderam-se 12 vidas, centenas de famílias ficaram desalojadas e bairros inteiros foram reduzidos a escombros.

O coração da ilha está ferido — mas continua a bater, e precisa de nós.

Entre os mais afectados está a família de um dos nossos selectas, que vive em Ribeira Bote, bairro histórico de Mindel, onde a Mindel Reggae Family já realizou quatro grandes eventos de Sound System nos últimos quatro anos.

A casa do seu pai foi totalmente destruída.

Ao lado, uma vizinha perdeu o filho.

A dor e a perda são profundas, mas a força para recomeçar é maior do que tudo.

O reggae não é apenas música. É comunidade. É resistência. É amor em acção.

Hoje, a nossa missão é ajudar Mindel a levantar-se de novo.
