Hello! My name is Tammi. My kitty, Mina, has been in my life for 11 years, and is the most wonderful companion that a human could ask for. She has been my rock and nurse through all the ups, downs, and in-betweens , and is my best friend and one of the loves of my life. Long story short… she is having some neurological problems, and we need your help to help her get better. Please read on for the specifics…
Last Wednesday evening (June 7th), seemingly out of nowhere, she started walking around aimlessly in circles, one of her pupils dilated, her left legs stopped working in sync with the rest of her movement, and she became unresponsive to a lot of external stimuli. We immediately took her to a local emergency vet clinic. 9 hours, a few tests, and a blood panel later, the vet had determined that all signs pointed to a neurological event or disorder. Anyone who has been through this with a pet before knows that this is a nebulous assessment, and requires further examination than an emergency vet clinic is prepared to offer at 4 am on a Thursday. They put her on a steroid, recommended that we try and get her an appointment with a neurologist, and sent us on our way.
By Sunday morning (June 11th) it had become apparent that the steroids were having little effect, and her symptoms were slightly worse, so we took Mina to the UC Davis Vet Med Center emergency department, where they were able to give her an exam and a consultation with a neurologist. We are still in the process of figuring out exactly what is wrong with her, but thus far, UC Davis has proven to be thorough, professional, and all-around great with Mina. However… this is all coming with a pretty hefty price tag, and while we are doing everything in our power to make this happen… our financial situation has not been great recently- between my lengthy stretch of unemployment, Chris’s recent medical expenses, and the rising cost of living that is hitting everybody, we have been drained of most of our discretionary funds. As our credit has been more or less maxed out… we are left with less-than-ideal options.
So… in a last-ditch effort to help Mina, we’re coming to you. While we are going to make sure we do everything that is possible to do for her regardless of the funds that are raised here, it would be ideal if we didn’t have to go bankrupt in the process. While I am loath to ask for handouts, my pride is less important than my kitty. If you can afford to spare a few bucks… you will have our eternal gratitude.
Love,
Tammi, Chris, Mina, Niles, and Aughra
