Mimi Simmons Scholarship Fund for Southwestern Community College

This Go Fund Me was created to help raise money for Mimi's Scholarship Fund at Southwestern Community College. The scholarship was created in 2005 after Mimi lost her battle to cancer. Thanks to the generous donations from family and friends the scholarship has awarded money to students for the past 14 years. Unfortunately, the scholarship has run dry and is need of help.

Mimi has a long history with SWC. She was an alumnus and then went on to become an instructor from 1993-2004.  During those years she formed lasting friendships with faculty, office staff, and especially her students. She loved the community SWC provided and Mimi's years as an instructor made a lasting impact. There are still preschool teachers in the field that remember being in her class and talk about how much they were inspired by her passion for teaching.

Southwestern is now preparing to award scholarships for the 2020-2021 Academic School Year. Many of the students enrolling in Child Development classes need financial help. Winning a scholarship can make a big impact. It not only inspires and motivates students to keep pursuing their educational goals but sends the message that individuals in the community are willing to invest in their future.

100% of the money raised here will be given to the scholarship department at SWC and 100% will be awarded to students that meet the requirements. The scholarship is only open to students who are currently enrolled in Child Development classes, maintain the required GPA, and submit an essay about themselves. Each semester, Mimi's daughter Molly, who is also a Child Development Instructor, is honored to read the entries and pick the recipients.

Thank you for being a champion of student success through your generous contribution. Your support helps students with tuition, the purchase of books and other educational materials, and makes it possible for them to realize their potential, even during a pandemic. It will also help carry on Mimi's legacy of teaching.

Mimi's family would like to thank you in advance for any donation that you can give.

The photo above was taken on the campus of SWC. Mimi was walking to her next class when a photography student stopped and asked if he could take her photo for his class assignment.
