Mimi Erving Humenik - A Light of Hope
Donation protected
Hello to friends, family, and those who I’ve yet to meet. My name is Maggie, and while there are many of you I haven’t met I know that you know me through my mothers stories. Just over one year ago I got the call from my mother that no daughter wants to get. As we kept in contact over the next few weeks, we continued to receive news that was heavy and not ideal. Despite all the consistent negative phone calls from doctors, mom continued to be optimistic and looked toward solutions. We spent the last year on constant phone calls, facetimes, as well as in person as she battled this terrible disease. She made it through unimaginable complications and she stands here today a new woman. Both physically, mentally, and emotionally. But her battle is not over. While she has finished traditional treatment, it is not complete. She needs to learn what it takes to live after cancer, and more importantly the skills that are needed to have a better chance of the cancer not returning. Cancer has touched way too many of us, and unfortunately it doesn’t stop at physical well depletion, but financially as well. Mom leaves at the end of this week to begin a new integrative treatment in Mexico. This protocol is not just about killing the cancer but also about healing the trauma that cancer has caused. It is about learning a new way of living to have every tool available in the fight against the cancer returning.
We appreciate every cent that anyone is willing to donate during this time. Thank you all in advance!
Let’s help Mimi Erving Humenik complete her cancer treatment. In June Mimi completed months of arduous treatment for triple-negative IDC breast cancer. This treatment stripped her immune system, took her breasts, blocked her lymphatic system, drained her energy, slowly stole more than twenty pounds, and depleted financial resources,. Her doctors pronounced her treatment complete with a caveat: the likelihood this cancer will not return is very unlikely. They explained that cancer – the emperor of so many maladies – waits to make its next move. And with trace evidence that her cancer responded to chemotherapy, Mimi’s options to fight back are minimal. Mimi spent the next several weeks gathering her belongings, her faith, her hope and decided to risk wildly on living fully, transparently, and purposefully. All the while asking the question what now. (Read her Caring Bridge story at https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/mimiervinghumenik) She is not content to wait for cancer to make its next punch. After much research, talking with the doctors and getting counsel from friends and family, she is beginning treatment on August 21 at Hope for Cancer – a treatment center with a whole-body philosophy addressing each individual’s mind, body, and spirit - offering a comprehensive healing protocol. (Read more about this treatment at https://hope4cancer.com.) A simplistic understanding of this beast called cancer is that one cell separates from the other cells, and in isolation becomes poisonous to the entire body. If all of us who read Mimi’s Caring Bridge join together to surround Mimi in her hope for healing by contributing what we can, we can keep the completion of her treatment from devastating her further financially and form a body of strength to carry her forward into a life committed to living out her faith, loving her family, and being a light in this world that can so quickly become darkened by deceit, division, and disconnection. We all experience the consequences of the cancer of division in our world today. This is an opportunity to not only help Mimi heal but give a dose of relief to our tired and depleted world by joining together in Mimi’s fight for life. Side by side, let’s shine a light on hope – together.
“Being a light in this world is about being a broken, exploding, scarred star and shining a light of hope and inspiration to everyone around you. Mimi Humenik is a light. I have known Mimi for years, and like many of you, have watched her face adversity, brokenness, and exploding challenges with grace, integrity, and a determination to choose joy. During a time of crisis in my own family, Mimi dropped everything and provided shelter, safety, and a way home for my daughter who had been assaulted and abandoned. I know many of you have experienced Mimi’s generous light and love.
As her friends, Lisa and I are honored to be invited to join Mimi and her daughter Maggie in continuing to shine a light of hope.”

“Mimi and I met in 2006 when we became neighbors, but more importantly lifelong friends. Over the years, she has been an example of faith, love, and loyalty as we would talk of our families, our heartaches, and challenges we faced. Often our conversations would begin in tears, and end in laughter with me saying, Well shoot, you’re still a better Christian than me! Like Sharon, I have watched her rise above life’s challenges, but nothing in comparison to this last year when she learned she had Triple Negative Breast Cancer, and all the complications that followed her diagnosis. I have had the honor of walking through this terrible disease with her, and while I was the one wearing the Patient Support bracelet, it was Mimi, more often than not, who was holding me up.”
