Alika's Heart Surgery

My nephew, Alika Allen Balgas-Shimizu was born on February 13, 2015 at North Community hospital in Waimea. My sister in-law was in labor for 29 hours and had to have a c-section because he was stuck but he was born perfectly healthy. The day after he was born, something strange happened. He refused to eat. Wether it was from the breast, or the nipple from the bottle, he still refused to eat. He would not latch on either. The Drs at Waimea decided to run some test, but they decided to fly Alika to Kapiolani Medical center where they found something. What they found was that Alika has VSD.

VSD is a hole in the wall separating the two lower chambers of the heart.

On February 15, 2015 we we’re told that Alika needs to be flown too San Diego where the Drs there will perform a major heart surgery to fix the hole in Alika’s heart.

Mommy Alaysha and daddy Isaac have no insurance. Which leads to so many medical bills. Labor and delivery, Flights to fly Alika and his parents to San Diego, and the surgery itself is very expensive. I am trying to raise money so that my sister in-law, her boyfriend, and Alika can fly to San Diego to get the help that he needs ASAP. This is their first child, and as a first time parents myself, I would do anything to make sure I could get my child the care that they need. Alaysha, Isaac and our family do not like to ask for help, but because of the situation we are in need, we need as much help as we can get.
