A message from Kathie O’Callaghan, Founder & President of Hearts and Homes

Hearts & Homes is a grassroots non-profit that is driven by volunteers who commit to being sponsors of families. This fundraising campaign would attract other donors to the cause and would give us the assurance we need to resettle them responsibly and with the greatest chance of self-sufficiency and better long-term outcomes. This is our goal, and why we focus network support on employment assistance, language––all tools to the mutual goal of becoming self-sufficient withing one year. Some cases may be more challenging/more expensive. Resettlement is extremely rewarding, but it is rarely neat and tidy.

One bright light in these dark days is the way it is bringing communities and people together. Advocating for SIVs has not been political. We have been building a grassroots humanitarian welcoming effort and it is heartwarming to see everyone from both sides of the aisle strongly united in the goal to welcome our wartime allies. After four years of anti-refugee sentiment, this is simply amazing. What you are doing furthers this possibility and give us all the opportunity to offer our new neighbors a leg up for a new life in safety and with dignity and hope.
