Milton Harrison George Coronial Inquest

Milton Harrison George was a 51 year old Kowanyama man who died in custody at the Kowanyama Watchhouse on 9 November 2022. He was in a de facto relationship and had 2 children.

An inquest into Mr George’s death is to be heard in Kowanyama commencing 6 February 2024, with a day’s travel (by plane due to the wet season) to Cairns, with the second day of the inquest being held in Cairns on 8 February 2024.

Mr George’s kinsfolk and community have been grief stricken for the past year not knowing the exact circumstances of his passing.

The State does not pay for families to attend Coronial Inquests. Mr George’s family cannot afford to travel from their remote Aboriginal community to attend Cairns for the inquest, nor the cost of food and accommodation once in Cairns.

Any funds raised will ensure that Mr George’s nearest kinsfolk can be present in court to hear the evidence given at the inquest.

Funds will be used to pay for flights, accommodation and food for family members.
