Hi everyone. After much deliberation and talks with family and friends, I've decided to start a GoFundMe. My name is Brittany, and Milo is my Boston Terrier that I rescued 4 years ago from a kill shelter in the south. Milo is my everything - he is quite literally my best friend and the light of my life. I don't know what I'd do without him.
Unfortunately, thanks to the genetic lottery, Milo has juvenile cataracts in both his eyes and needs surgery, or else he will go blind. Per the vet, "Diagnosis: Immature cataracts, hereditary, both eyes, with vitreal zonular degeneration, right eye more affected."
He's still so young, to me it just is not fair that this should happen so early, so I've elected to have surgery. The longer I wait to do it, the more complications that will arise, so I am planning to book in February while my mother is laid off from work (her job is seasonal) to help me care for him. During this time, I will be staying at my parents house (in Taunton) and commuting to Boston, as he needs at least 2 weeks recovery time, and will be needing weekly followup visits to the vet to make sure he is healing properly, along with daily eye drops. Between the cost of travel, numerous vet visits, eye drops, pre-op, and surgery, the cost of this is going to be $6000. As luck would have it, my pet insurance will not cover any of this, as it is deemed a "pre-existing condition".
I am currently working two jobs, but the 2nd is at a country club which is closing down for the winter months. I am trying to do what I can to save, from selling clothes and posessions to working 6-7 days a week, but with bills and rent and everything else, I am really strapped here. I know it is the holidays, which is a tough time for folks moneywise, but I am just asking if you could spare even a dollar to help us out. I feel terrible asking people for money, but on my better days, I always donate money to animals in need, so I guess I'm just hoping someone out there will return the favor.
Any money I receive that does not go directly to Milo's surgery will be donated to NEBTR: New England Boston Terrier Rescue: http://nebostonrescue.com/
Thank you for taking the time to read this, Milo and I appreciate it more than we can say. I will be posting updates and photos periodically.
Love Brittany and Milo
