Milonga is a short documentary that gives a personal insight into the inspiring story of Brenno Marques and Fati Caracoch, winners of the Tango World Championship in 2024.
Brenno, who committed his entire life to Tango, uprooted his life in Brazil to chase his dream in Buenos Aires before abruptly quitting his dream. After two years away from the Milongas, he returned with a new partner Fati, within in a matter of months they went on to take Tango’s highest accolade.
In this documentary, we follow the pair now almost a year on from the World Championship win, where we uncover what it takes to find the perfect Tango partner, how their synchronicity is naturally built and what life is really like away from the Milonga for two of Tango’s brightest talents.
This is a story about fighting for your dream, going against convention and uncovering the grit, technicality and philosophy that goes into the improvised art of Tango.
Why This Film, Why Now?
Tango is often seen through a romanticised, tourist-facing lens, but at its core, it is a living, breathing culture shaped by those who inhabit it every day.
Milonga seeks to move beyond the spectacle and instead tell a grounded, authentic story from inside the community itself. At a time when questions of identity, cultural ownership, and personal expression are increasingly visible, this film offers a quiet, intimate counterpoint, one that listens rather than explains.
Our Approach
This film is being developed as a short, cinematic documentary, prioritising:
- Observational storytelling
- Intimate interviews
- Naturalistic sound and movement
- A visually rich but restrained aesthetic
Rather than relying on narration, Milonga allows its subjects and environment to lead, capturing moments of stillness, ritual, and emotion inside the milonga spaces themselves.
Where We Are Now?
Milonga is currently in late development, with research completed and creative direction established. We are now entering the production phase, which is where your support becomes essential.
Our aim is to travel to Buenos Aires and to film the main segments of this documentary in the first week of February 2026.
The funds raised through this campaign will directly enable us to complete the film to the standard it deserves and bring it to audiences worldwide.
What We’re Raising Funds For?
Your contribution will go directly towards:
- Production costs (crew, equipment, location access)
- Travel & logistics for filming in Buenos Aires
- Sound design & music licensing
- Editing, colour grade & post-production
- Festival submissions & distribution preparation
Every pound raised goes on screen.
Why Crowdfunding Matters?
Without crowdfunding this project wouldn't be possible, your contribution allows us to make Milonga independently, without compromising its voice, perspective, or integrity.
By supporting this campaign, you’re not just funding a film; you’re becoming part of its journey. Independent documentaries rely on community, and this project is no different. Your support gives us the freedom to tell this story honestly and with care.
Our Ambition
Once completed, Milonga will be submitted to leading international documentary and short film festivals, with the aim of reaching global audiences both on the festival circuit and through curated online platforms. With the final goal of reaching qualifying stages for some of documentaries biggest awards.
This film is intended to live beyond a single screening, to travel, to connect, and to spark conversation.
