MILO’S HOPE...

Milo Mumalo is a husband, father, caring son, and a great friend to many.  His family, wife Kimi, two sons (Nick age 17 & Cooper Bo age 6), and Milo’s mother, Dana, are in need of your help.

As many of you may know, Milo has worked at the Il Fornaio Denver Tech Center location since its opening in 2000. For those 19 years, he has offered his warmth and friendly face to countless patrons, becoming one of those ‘instant friends’ that we all seek.  That is why we are putting this page together to assist our kind and wonderful friend and coworker who is now so much in need of help during this heartbreaking time.

Our loving friend needs your help

Milo’s long-term battle against multiple sclerosis (MS) has just recently taken a turn for the worse.  At the same time, Milo’s mother Dana has come under his care due to a paralyzing stroke. These two heartbreaking events have strained Milo’s family resources to a breaking point.

MS is a debilitating and long-lasting disease that attacks the nervous system. It can cause problems with vision, balance, and muscle control. Milo is experiencing all of these disorders. Double vision, dizziness, trembling, mobility and balance issues have created a situation where he is no longer able to work.  His hope is to receive the medication necessary to stabilize these conditions and return to work to support his family.

MS is not a disease which can be cured, though the impacts can be controlled a bit to provide a better, long-term quality of life. Treatments are available that rely on tests and medications which Milo’s family cannot afford. Though Milo is keen to get started, out-of-pocket costs are exorbitant. He needs to get into a medical regimen that he is unable to afford at this time. You can help.

Milo’s condition and an expired Family Medical Leave Act disability coverage could not come at a worse time. Dana, Milo’s diabetic mother, suffered a stroke in February which has paralyzed her right side and has placed her in a wheelchair. Milo and Kimi have taken Dana into their care. This responsible and appropriate action has further exacerbated this loving family’s financial situation.

Milo’s Hope for his family

Raising funds for Milo’s medical care by providing him the necessary medication to stabilize his condition so that he may return to work is primary to our cause. Though Kimi is employed, their single income is not enough to cover expanding medical tests and treatment costs.  Kimi’s medical insurance does not provide coverage for Milo without a hefty increase in premiums. Raising funds to help with the medical and job-loss impacts of his MS is part of our cause.

Our second need to assist this wonderful family is to help get their shared home into ADA compliance for Dana’s mobility. A wheelchair lift is needed for Dana’s access to their shared home.  A roll-in shower, tile flooring, pedestal sink, and several door widenings are needed. A vehicle modified to handle a wheelchair and a partially paralyzed Dana is would be extremely helpful. Additionally, as Milo may not able to meet his mother’s daily needs, and especially if an emergency arises, part-time in-home care is being sought.

You Can Help in Two Ways

First, your donation through this GoFundMe site will work wonders in the life of Milo’s family. You will be able to feel their gratitude and appreciation as you make your heartfelt donation.

Second, you can share this GoFundMe site with others by getting the word out…an email to friends or sharing the link on your Facebook Timeline are just a couple of ways to do this.

We thank you for taking the time to read Milo’s story and it is our wish that we can bring a quality of life back to his loving family.

The Mumalo family thanks you in advance for your generosity.

Steve and Dr. Ellen Burkett
