Milo The Bravest takes on FIP

Milo joined our family in December of 2022. We fell in love at first meet, he was always meant to be ours! His gorgeous blue eyes and the sweetest, easiest demeanor, he just fit right in! On February 15th, Milo went in for a routine neuter. He had been incredibly loopy after the surgery, unable to walk straight, his legs not quite working right. He was on pretty heavy pain medication and coming off the anesthesia, so we chalked it up to that. Within 3 days, Milo lost his ability to walk altogether, experiencing complete paralysis from the waist down. Our sweet man spend 3 days at the Emergency veterinary hospital, had an MRI and spinal tap, and was eventually diagnosed with FIP that went wild when his immune system was suppressed during anesthesia.
Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is a painful, incurable disease that’s nearly always fatal. However, over the past few years, thousands of cats have reportedly been cured of FIP by a new drug. The problem: the company that created this drug refuses to license it for use in animals out of fear that it could interfere with the research for use in humans. This has left desperate pet parents and vets around the world with no legal way to obtain it. With news spreading of its amazing efficacy, a black market in the drug grew quickly. Here in the US, an underground group of volunteers runs FIP Warriors. Through this group, we were able to connect with other FIP pet parents and get information about how to acquire and administer black-market GS-441524, the cure for FIP. Within only hours, we had our first supply of this life saving medicine in hand and on February 23rd, Milo started dose one!! This regimen will be hard, we will be administering daily injections for 84 days (and possibly longer depending on how he responds) followed by an 84 day waiting period. Our tiny man is a fighter! We are so grateful for the possibility of a cure and for all of those who have helped us get to this point this week.
All of that said, this medicine is expensive! Between the medicine itself, monthly blood tests to track progress, supplies, and all of the care he has already received, this treatment will cost well over $7000-$9000+ out of pocket (in addition to the $6000+ already covered by his medical insurance).
Any help you're able to provide will help us fight for Milo's life!! Milo also has an Amazon wishlist if you want to send him some supplies or spoil him with some treats.
