What is the measure of a good boy?
Is it the number of legs?
Or is it the fullness of heart and the boundless and unconditional love that dwells therein?
Milo Daugermen had not had an easy life before he met Tricia Ramos. The victim of an escalator accident and subsequent neglect that led to the loss of a front leg and several toes, by all rights he should have been a scared boy. He should have been a cautious, paranoid, and unapproachable boy. But when he saw Tricia from across the room at the SPCA, even though she was a total stranger, his first reaction was to run at full speed toward her, standing up on his hind legs and slapping the window that separated them with his remaining forelimb, as if to say, “You’re finally here!”
Milo Daugerman is a good boy.
Milo Daugerman is a loving boy.
Sadly, Milo Daugerman is also a sick boy.
Over the weekend, Milo suddenly became unable to use his back leg. It swelled at the joint for seemingly no reason and the swelling has not receded. Tricia has taken him to three different veterinarians and, although they’ve had several theories, they haven’t been able to determine the actual cause of his condition. His ailment could be a reaction to a bug bite, sting, or plant. It could also be a ligament injury, a fracture, an immune-mediated disease, a blood infection, or cancer.
So far, Milo has been X-Rayed, treated with a corticosteroid shot, had blood work done, seen an orthopedic specialist, and is now on broad-spectrum antibiotics in the hopes that an undiagnosed infection is the cause of this mysterious malady.
Currently, it looks like the next steps are a $1,000.00 fluid draw, which may then be followed by a $3,500.00 CT Scan and surgery. All of this will be on top of the close to $1000.00 that Tricia has already spent.
Every pet owner knows the feeling of helplessness that accompanies rising vet costs. There is a terrible sense of despair that comes with knowing what you can do for a loved one might not be able to match what you would do for them, if money were no object...
Please, donate to help Milo Daugerman if you are able.
This good boy deserves a good, long life.
