Millsy’s Marathons!

Donation protected
What’s up guys thank you for taking the time to come this far and check this out. I will try and keep it brief and to the point.

What am I doing?

Running two marathons in 2022.

The Brooklyn Marathon on April 24th and the New York City Marathon on November 6th.

Why?

What started as a personal challenge to get me moving more and keep the dad bod at bay, has become an opportunity to raise awareness and some money for one of my closest friends and a great cause.

Early last month one of my dearest pals, also named Thomas (great name) experienced swelling in his tonsils and after a routine visit to the doctor was prescribed a round of antibiotics and sent home. Tommy saw no change a week or so into the course of medicine and decided to go for further tests, ultimately resulting in the diagnoses of cancer in his tonsils, which had also spread to the lymph nodes in his neck.

Tommy is a brand new Dad and thanks to his lovely wife Hayde has a beautiful 6 month old little boy (the picture for this page was taken at his christening in May!)

He starts his radiotherapy and chemo treatments soon and I’m sure is looking forward to a much needed new hairstyle and losing a few lbs in the process ;)

Jokes aside Tommy is as stubborn as he is strong and I don’t doubt for one second that he will beat this and be back to new in time for me to drag him around a 26.2 mile course some time in the future!

Where is the money going?

Ironically and as testament to his character, before any of this happened Thomas had started a fund raising campaign himself for cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) who’s world class services he will now be taking advantage of. The money will be going directly to Thomas’ family and his campaign.

I know it has been a tough couple of years for everybody and whether you are able to donate or not THANK YOU in advance for taking the time to read through this quick story. Hopefully this encourages you to listen to your body and your gut in times of doubt. It’s always better safe than sorry - go and get things checked.

Sadly we are all in some way affected by cancer and if me waddling my fat arse through the streets of New York with your donations behind me can help in any way fight back, then let’s do it!

Thanks everyone!
