Since the age of 2, Mikayla has been an advocate as a Sickle Cell Ambassador. Her story is not new. But she is using her account to help others in hopes that more research is done, raising awareness and funding, so no other child or young adult living with Sickle Cell has to disrupt their childhood.

Mikayla has been hospitalized dozens of times since birth with vaso-occlusive crises, and she has had many serious health issues, including Acute Chest Syndrome, Pneumonia, Gallbladder Surgery and a Silent Stroke when she was just three years old.

Because of her complications from Sickle Cell, Mikayla is set to have a Bone Marrow Transplantation, the only known cure available for patients affected by Sickle Cell Disease.

This transplant is a stringent process that will take over 12 months to recover fully.
