Millie’s Chance to Walk
Meet Millie!
Check out the video below to see how she moves!!
My roommates and I are fostering two Rhodesian Ridgeback puppies who were rescued from a backyard breeder, where they were not properly cared for and became severely malnourished.
When Millie first came to us, she was unable to use her hind legs, affecting her ability to walk. She would just sit in our laps, watch her sister run and play, and whimper because all she wanted to do was keep up with her sister, but you could see in her eyes that her hope was fading. With lots of love and food she has improved immensely and is able to use her back legs to the best of her ability, but that is still far from normal.
We recently found out that her femur, tibia, and fibula all had serious fractures and have “healed” incorrectly, causing her to be almost constantly uncomfortable and in pain. These injuries were not caused by chance and are from either being stepped on or other physical abuse, however we unfortunately will never know. All we do know is that we can provide a loving and comfortable home for now and in the future.
But there is a way for her to have a “normal” life. We have had consults with different specialists, in addition to a board certified veterinary osteologist. The ultimate consensus is that she should have surgery, a corrective osteotomy, done to help her. However, this surgery is highly difficult and specific, and she will need to have it done on both legs individually. This journey will not be easy or cheap, costing around $8,000 in total, but it is her best chance at a life where she can run and play as she was born to do. Millie has already proven that she is a fighter and the money donated will be put towards her two surgeries to give her the long-lasting life she deserves. Please consider donating and sharing if you can.
Thank you for your help and support,
