Millie’s Journey to Recovery with ADEM

If you’ve found yourself here, hello and thank you

Millie, a kind, bright and healthy 11 year old. A young girl who from the moment she could she would help anyone in need with a smile on her face.

two weeks ago Millie lost feeling in her legs which rapidly progressed to being paralysed from the waist down. After days of tests being run by the doctors all while she continued to deteriorate, she was eventually diagnosed with a condition called Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis (ADEM) this is an incredibly rare autoimmune disease that causes inflammation (swelling) in the brain and spinal cord, damaging the protective myelin coating around nerves.

Millie was transferred to the Queensland Children’s Hospital while her Mum, Dad and baby brother live at the Ronald McDonald House.

Millies condition is one that comes with uncertainty and one that could be a very long journey to recovery.

Unfortunately bills, rent, hospital parking, groceries and any current / future medical bills still need to be paid so I’ve started this gofundme page with the hopes to relieve some financial stress for my sister and brother in law as they’ve taken extended time off work to be with their daughter.
