Millie's Expense Fund

After enduring several months of severe back pain, several trips to the ER and many normal test results, Millie was finally admitted to the hospital on January 11.  She was diagnosed with Stage 4  non-small cell lung cancer that metastasized to her ribs and liver.  She was given a poor prognosis, but informed that she could receive radiation to shrink the the largest tumor. This would help to alleviate back pain and give her a better quality of life. Millie was a fighter and she was ready to take on this battle.  

On Wednesday, January 21, she was transferred to Forbes Regional Hospital to receive radiation treament. We were hopeful.  Upon her arrival, we were told that her health was declining and there was nothing more that could be done except to make her comfortable.  On Saturday, January 24, surrounded by her beloved daughters she took her last breath.  

Millie was a smoker for most of her adult life.  After several attempts to stop smoking, she successfully quit in 2005.  She stated, "It was a very difficult to kick the habit, but I was determined to do it."  While we are raising funds to help pay expenses not covered by her insurance, a portion of the funds collected will be donated in her name to the American Lung Association of the Mid Atlantic.  It is our hope that her death will not be in vain.
