Stephanie and Davids beautiful boy, Miller, is the light of their lives. He is a happy and cheeky 2 year old who has three sisters; Savannah, Spencer and his twin sister Maisie. Miller is one of the strongest children I have met, having undergone unimaginable medical intervention, and now he has just been diagnosed with his newest fight; cancer.
Miller was born a complex cardiac condition: Truncus Arteriosus, severe Pulmonary Stenosis and a Ventricular Septal Defect. He underwent his first open heart surgery at 2 days of age at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. The following day he suffered a cardiac arrest and spent the following week fighting for his life on life support. Unfortunately the complications didn’t end there. He suffered a bleed in his brain, blood pressure issues, hypothyroidism, retained fluids, infections, and a damaged lymphatic system. At 9 weeks of age Millers heart began to fail, resulting in him undergoing his second open heart surgery. He was on a ventilator for a total of four months, however despite these challenges, Miller never stopped fighting.
Miller spent his first 6 months of life at the RCH, with Steph, David, and his sisters by his side. When he was finally discharged home Miller began the long road to recovery. He has been supported by speech pathologists and dieticians to overcome his oral aversion, physiotherapists to support his strength and gross motor skills, as well as ongoing cardiac follow up to monitor the condition of his heart.
Now at 2yrs of age Miller has made huge progress. He is learning to walk, talk, and eat and drink orally. He loves to dance, and his smile lights up a room. His family were finally beginning to put the trauma and challenges behind them and enjoy life as a family of 6.
Unfortunately, shortly after his 2nd birthday Steph and David rushed him back to the RCH after they found a lump growing. It was confirmed this week that he has hepatoblastoma, a rare liver cancer, which has spread to all four sections of his liver. Miller is now undertaking chemotherapy for the next 6 months in the aim to reduce the size of the cancer. However, due to the severity of the cancer Miller will also need a liver transplant. Steph and David are hoping they will be a match and can bravely donate part of their liver to Miller. Unfortunately, it is not yet known how Millers heart withstand the treatment.
The family are devastated. Their lives have been turned upside down once again. They have already gone through so much to support Miller and their other 3 children and now they are facing a new battle. The family are remaining strong but with such an uncertain road ahead, they need all the support they can get.
We are reaching out to ask for your support. Every donation, no matter how big or small, will go directly to Steph and David. Your generosity will not only ease the financial strain but also allow them to focus fully on what matters most-surrounding Miller with love and support.
If you are unable to give financially, please consider sharing this page and keeping Miller in your thoughts. Your kindness means more than words can express.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
