It's time to give a modern day makeover to our dining area/main hangout at the Miller Home. The goals are to bring it from Nursing Home Bleak to Teenager Fabulous Chic. We hope to raise $3,000 with a stretch goal of over $5,000.
We plan to update the lighting, revamp with new computer work areas, add a crafting area (These Girls Love to Paint), cubbies for each girl, new custom window treatments, paint, lamps, plants, mirrors, new hanging light fixtures, a space to paint nails, a pop-up hair salon, a cool dog house for the dog Faith, update the tables, and many other surprises for our girls to feel not only calm and yoga like, but also proud to hang out in the space. But we can't do it without YOU!
Did you know that by using the psychology of interior design, you can easily become more comfortable in your space? Small changes to colors, layout, and fabrics can easily improve mood and evoke positive feelings. Of all the people in the world that need help improving mood and evoking positive feelings its TEENAGE GIRLS! And we have such opportunity to do some serious improvement here! These girls spend 80% of their awake time while at home in this room and the impact walking into a space that evokes the feeling of home and peace will be profound on their development.
As a reminder the purpose of Miller Home of Lynchburg, Virginia https://www.millerhomeoflynchburg.org/who-we-are/ is to provide short or long term care and guidance to girls, ages four to twenty-one, who cannot live with their families anymore. Miller Home seeks to provide these services within a supportive, non-institutional environment, which encourages each girl to grow and develop to her highest potential. It is the goal of Miller Home to assist its residents in becoming responsible productive citizens.
We will send updates as we go along to those who donate. Thank you to Kimberly Daniels with Surfaces by Barrows for donating new wood-look vinyl plank flooring, Joni Coleman with Designs in You, Inc. for providing window treatments and Beverly McCloskey Designs for lamps.
Our goal is to start the project October 6, 2018! Much depends on how quickly we meet our fundraising goal and how fast we can get the things we need! The impact on these girls lives will be profound and we can't wait to share the results with you!
