Milla's UN Youth Australia- Young Diplomats Tour

Donation protected

Hi, my name is Milla Prowse, and I am a 17 year old student from Mount Gambier, South Australia, and I am crowd funding to support an opportunity of a lifetime.

I love all things people my age love; movies, music, theatre, my dog, Taylor Swift...

However, I know that I am not like typical teenage girls, for I have a deep rooted passion for social change, and a diplomatic way of thinking. I am an academically focused student with a hunger for knowledge and real life experiences.

I have been honored as one of 16 young people chosen from around Australia to participate in the UN Youth's Young Diplomats Tour, spending a month travelling around Europe and studying statehood, politics, and diplomacy.

This is a rare and unique opportunity for me, preparing me for university, in courses that I am most interested in, such as International Relations, Political Science, History, and Law. The tour will cost close to $9000 plus spending, and I am hoping to crowd fund at least half of this, whilst also seeking sponsorship from organisations and people of key influence, as well as some fun fundraising events. Anything that you can donate will be greatly appreciated to fund what will be an unparalleled opportunity.

So- a little bit more about the tour- First of all- I have created a website with all the information about myself and the trip in detail. Please visit the link below and check it out.

We will be departing from Melbourne on the 28th of December 2024, and landing in Krakow, Poland, where our main focus is on nationalism, dictatorships, and their WW2 history, visiting places such as Auschwitz.

From there, we will spend New Years Eve in Berlin, Germany, where our focus there will be espionage, the cold war, and obviously, Nazism and its power in WW2.

Then we visit The Hague, in the Netherlands, where the International Court of Justice, and the International Criminal Court are housed.

Next Stop; The Capital of the EU, Brussels, Belgium. Here we will be focused on exploring the European parliament, diplomacy, and the power that organisations such as the UN, EU, and NATO hold.

Then, we will stop in France to learn about the themes of revolution and democracy, as well as the UN’S Security Council, which is the permanent 5 sovereign states of the UN (France, USA, China, Russia, and the UK).

Our last stop before departing from London is Belfast, Northern Ireland. Here, we focus on sovereignty and colonialism, as well as the IRA, the Irish Troubles, and Brexit.

What an amazing opportunity, especially for a political enthusiast like me! We’re expected to have about half a day of free time in each city to explore on our own. It’s not a lot, but with visits to castles, museums, and churches, my inner history nerd will be satisfied- and exhausted.

I am also working with my school to incorporate this learning experience into my curriculum, which will include deep diving into the main themes of the trip, as well as fundraising, crowd-funding, and seeking sponsorship, because unfortunately, this program is not “all expenses paid.”

I hope you can see how much this trip will shape my future beyond school. I understand that times are tough right now, and the economic challenges we're facing are hard on many families. But if you're able to contribute even a small amount to my educational journey, it would mean more to me and my family than words can convey.

Thanks for your time and your support. If you would like to chat with me about the trip- please reach out- there's nothing I would like more than to talk about it with you.

Milla :)
