There are 5.5 million military and veteran caregivers in the United States. Ongoing care is required for many service members and veterans, and more often than not, this care is provided at home by family members and friends.
Led by the Elizabeth Dole Foundation with support from its National Coalition of partners, the Hidden Heroes campaign brings vital attention to the untold stories of military caregiving and seeks solutions for the tremendous challenges and long-term needs caregivers face. The goals for the Hidden Heroes Campaign are threefold: raising public awareness and inspiring civic engagement for this caregiving crisis, identifying these hidden heroes by creating a national military caregiver registry, and connecting military caregivers to a continuum of support and vetted resources.
On August 14, 2016 I will participate in the Atlantic City Triathlon as part of a relay team http://delmosports.com/atlantic-city-triathlon-new-jersey-triathlon/ I am running in this race to raise awareness for military caregivers. As an Afghanistan War veteran I have not only served but provided a support system for members of my family who are decorated veterans of Vietnam and World War II.
I'm asking for your financial support for the Hidden Heroes Campaign. By providing f inancial support, you are helping to directly fund programs that improve and uplift the lives of America’s hidden heroes, our military caregivers.
The Hidden Heroes fund will support programs that provide the greatest potential of helping military and veteran caregivers in seven critical areas.
-Community support at home
-Education and Training
-Employment and Workplace Support
-Financial and Legal Assistance
-Interfaith Action and Ministry
-Mental and Physical Health
