Hi, I'm Mili, and I'm 12 years old.
I was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome when I was 6 years old. Since then, I have lived with tics every day. Some days are better than others, but Tourette's affects many parts of my life, including school, concentration, confidence, and everyday activities.
One of the most difficult parts of living with Tourette's is my coprolalia (swearing tics). These tics can happen without warning and make it very difficult and frustrating to be out and about in public. Although I know the words aren't really what I want to say, they can still be upsetting and embarrassing for me.
I also experience motor tics, which can be exhausting. Repeated movements throughout the day often leave me feeling tired, sore, and in pain. Many people only see the tics themselves, but they don't always see the physical and emotional impact they can have behind the scenes.
Over the years, I have tried conventional medications to help control my tics, but unfortunately they have not worked for me. My family and I are now looking at alternative treatments that may help improve my quality of life.
This June, I am challenging myself to cycle 100 miles in one month to raise money for a Neupulse device.
Neupulse is a non-invasive treatment designed to help reduce the severity of tics in people with Tourette Syndrome. Unfortunately, it is not currently available through the NHS, which means families have to fund it themselves.
My goal is to raise £500 towards the cost of the device. Any money raised above this target will be donated to Tourette's Scotland so that other people and families affected by Tourette Syndrome can benefit too.
Every mile I cycle brings me one step closer to my goal, and every donation, no matter how big or small, will make a real difference.
If you are unable to donate, sharing my fundraiser with friends, family, and colleagues would mean the world to me.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for supporting me on this journey.
With love,
Mili ❤️
