Miles for Mum
This July, I’ll be running 46 miles (yes, forty-six ) to celebrate my wonderful mum’s 46th birthday and to raise money and awareness for an incredible charity called FND Action.
This fundraiser is called Miles for Mum, because every mile I run is for her, and for the thousands of others living with FND.
Wait... what’s FND?
FND stands for Functional Neurological Disorder a condition that affects the way the brain sends and receives signals to the body. The signals are there… they’re just not getting through quite right.
People with FND can experience:
- Seizures or blackouts
- Problems with movement (walking, tremors, weakness)
- Speech and memory issues
- Pain, fatigue, and so much more
Here’s the tricky part: despite being very real and very life-altering, FND is still poorly understood in the medical world. There’s no quick fix, no one-size-fits-all treatment plan, and often… no clear answers.
Many people with FND (including my mum ) go through a rollercoaster of tests, appointments, and confusion before finally hearing the words: "You have Functional Neurological Disorder."
And even then, after the relief of finally having a name for it, they’re often met with blank stares or disbelief from healthcare providers who don’t know what it is, or how to help.
♀️ Me? Running?!
At the beginning of May, I downloaded the Couch to 5K app, laced up my trainers, and gave it a shot. Before that, I could barely run for a minute without feeling like I was going to pass out. That first run pushed me, but I finished it! Because I wanted to do something that felt big.
So now, I'm running 46 miles across the month of July. I’ll be slow. I’ll be exhausted. I’ll probably trip over a pebble at least once. But I’ll be doing it for my mum. And for everyone affected by FND.
How You Can Help
If you’ve made it this far... THANK YOU!
Now here comes the cutsey bit...
If you can spare a few pounds (or more!) to support this cause, I would be over-the-moon grateful! Every donation, no matter how small, is a huge step forward.
Can’t donate right now? That’s totally okay! You can still help by sharing this page, cheering me on, or telling someone about FND who’s never heard of it before.
Together, we can turn miles into awareness for a condition that truly needs it.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart (and soon-to-be very tired legs)!
Let’s do this — for Mum, for FND, for change.
