Miles' road to recovery

Miles loves family, friends, adventure and the ladies. He is a beautiful, kind hearted, lover of life with the impulse control of poorly trained Labrador.

Miles has enjoyed a successful career as a Sky Diving Tandem Master, representing Australia in the sport that he loves. Miles spends his time making himself and others laugh and creating ways to have new adventures.

On Friday 7th July, Miles had an accident whilst training with friends in the French Alps. Miles clipped a tree whilst flying resulting in a medivac from the French Alps, to Grenoble University Hospital in France. He had surgery immediately to stop internal bleeding. Since then he has had 3 more surgeries.

A summary of the surgeries:

1. Emergency surgery on his intestines to stop internal bleeding. He has not be able to eat since the accident a week ago.

2. Surgery on his broken back (L3) involving stabilizing with mesh and 3 bolts

3. Surgery to insert a steel rod inside (it’s really gross & awesome) his (R) femur

4. Surgery on his broken (L) his patella and (L) fibula

As well as these surgeries, Miles also broke his (R) calcaneus, (L) ankle, injured his spline, (R) kidney, coccyx and today there is a question on his (L) tricep region.

Miles has made a life-changing mistake. He did not buy travel insurance and as a result there are massive medical bills for us, his family, to pay. Our family will do everything we can to ensure that he continues to get the medical care he needs, but we are humbly asking for your help. We are still working out exactly how much the medical care will cost, but we know it will be in excess of $100,000 AUD (we will update you as we learn more). We are incredibly grateful to France and the French people who have looked after him so beautifully well. We are mystified and eternally grateful that he is alive.

If you've met a Cottman, you know that we don't like to ask for help – we are the ones who like to give it! We like to be the ones in control of the situation, however, in this instance we are unable to and are relying on others to support my little brother in his time of need.  If you are able to, please make a contribution to his medical bills by clicking the links below.
