Miles For The Mind
Tax deductible
Hi. My name is Tasha Nicholson, and I am 30 years old and have bipolar disorder. I am an avid runner, completing my 5th full marathon in October 2018 (The Chicago Marathon). I was then hospitalized for nearly 6 months due to my mental illness. Throughout this time, I was treated for self-harm, anorexia, PTSD, suicidal ideations and generalized bipolar disorder issues. I was at an ultimate low, wanted to end my life and had countless sessions with my psychiatrists and psychologists each week to help combat it all. I was no longer practicing as an oncology nurse nor running due to my mental illness and an injury I sustained to my right foot during The Chicago Marathon.
We're now in September 2019, and I'm post-hospitalization x3 months. My medications are therapeutic, I see my doctors regularly, and I am back to doing what I love...running. I wanted to do something to give back to an organization that helps raise awareness and provide support to those who also battle with bipolar disorder and couldn't think of a better way to do so than to raise and donate money to The International Bipolar Foundation through running. I am unable to afford the trip to run The New York City Marathon in NYC this year, but I am striving to run with the 50,000+ runners that will be completing the marathon on November 3, 2019, on my home turf (Charlotte, NC). That day I'll also be running 26.2 miles to help raise awareness and money for bipolar disorder.
So, you may ask, "What's the catch?" I'm asking that you pledge $6 (6 is my lucky number) for each mile that I complete and then donate an additional $25 when I finish the marathon miles to their entirety. I sincerely appreciate you helping me make this charitable donation happen to help research and treat bipolar disorder. Spreading awareness, understanding and support is of the utmost importance to my family and I. Let's make this happen with a goal of $3,000. We will post updates on November 3rd as I embark on my attempt for 26.2 miles at 0940am EST; the start of wave 1 for the NYC Marathon. Also, please note than any and all donations to the cause are greatly appreciated!
