MILES FOR MUFULIRA

Donation protected
Hi, My name is Francesca Townsend and this summer I am taking my medical elective at the Ronald Ross General Hospital in Mufulira, Zambia with my bursary paid for by a small charity that has been twinning with this hospital for over ten years - *Friends of Mufulira.*UK Charity no 1176062

Speaking to former electives and trustees who know the hospital it appears the greatest need is for the cheapest equipment - disposables that we take for granted here in UK. With just £5 you could donate 100 needles to this hospital in Mufulira, Zambia. My aim therefore is to take some supplies with me when I go.

That is why I am attempting the Manchester Marathon this April!

Anyone who knows me will know what a massive challenge this is for me but I will put in the work to make this happen. So please be generous and push me across the finish line for an incredible cause. Thank you!

Below is a list of where your donations will go and the difference that they can make :

Isolation gown £5

Surgical face masks £5.50

Syringes £30

100 needles £5

IV canula £80

Butterly Needles £20

Aprons £3

Hand sanitiser 5L £36

Sterile gloves pack £16

Antiseptic soap £11

With the most recent review identifying small items that are currently urgently required :
• Urine testing strips
• Tru cut biopsy needles
• Adult and paediatric iv cannulas and butterfly needles.
• A paediatric infusion pump for KH. Intravenous fluids are currently given by physically counting the number of trips per minute which is to say the least inaccurate.
• Blood glucose hand-held machines and testing strips.
• Replacement bulbs for the surgical lamp at KH (eventual replacement with modern surgical lamp)
• Examination lamp for KH, for cervical cytology (smear tests).
• Adult and paediatric nebuliser.
-These are potentially life changing simple apparatus that in the UK we take for granted and would never expect to go short.

£8 will buy 10 Sterile disposable scalpels, £13 for 50 Glucose test strips, £33 for 100 iv infusion sets ( butterfly needles)

With the funds raised I hope to buy supplies and take over an extra suitcase to supply them all directly to the hospital, where they are needed most.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, sharing is also really appreciated!!
