Miles for Moseley (& the QE!)

Donation protected

Hi everyone.

I’m Tim and I’d like to tell you a little about what I’m doing and why. In March 2019, I experienced a bleed on the brain and had emergency surgery at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. Whilst in critical care, it was found I had endocarditis and needed a replacement heart valve. I cannot thank the critical care staff enough for their tireless hard work in looking after me during an extremely difficult few weeks. We were told by my consultant that it was extremely unlikely that I would regain any movement or control on my left side. I was determined to prove him wrong.

Later on in my recovery process, I spent 4 months on Ward 9 in Moseley Hall Hospital for my rehabilitation. Whilst there, I met some amazing people, all dedicated to helping me regain as much movement back as possible, and to providing me with the best care possible. The difference this team made is unreal. They laughed with me, they cried with me and they made my physio sessions fun.

I was discharged from hospital and able to come home in October 2019. Currently, I have 24/7 care from support workers and my wife.Since being home, I have continued my physio and now have use of my left leg and movement in my left arm. My goal is to be walking again by the end of this year. I am eternally grateful for all the care and help I received by the teams at the QE and at Moseley and cannot thank them enough. With the current global health crisis, we are celebrating the heroes of the NHS, but to me they’ve always been heroes.

So, to thank them, I want to raise some money to help support them. Lands End to John O’Groats by bike is 874 miles. At the moment, travelling and biking is not an option, so that is why I am completing this distance using a stationary mini bike at home. No journey is complete without support - so I have roped my friends in to help out. Every other day between Monday 18th May and 30th June 2020, I will be doing sessions on my bike to cover as much distance as possible. On the days I am resting, my friends will be either walking, running or biking whatever distance they can and contributing to the total miles. We are aiming for a total of £1,000, but any money raised will be split equally between the QE hospital and Moseley Hall hospital to put towards much needed equipment, or whatever they may need to help support them in providing care to others like me.

Thank you to all NHS staff!
