Miles for Milly.
Right now, the King family needs to feel what we already know to be true — that they have one heck of a community behind them.
This week, 5-year-old Milly, daughter of Stephen and Ashley King, was diagnosed with B-Cell ALL leukemia. In an instant, life shifted for Stephen, Ashley, Milly, and her little sister Olive. The news has shaken all of us who know and love this family.
The Kings are a cherished part of our Hatteras community — and in this season of uncertainty, we are standing shoulder to shoulder with them. If there’s one thing we know to be true, it’s this: our community shows up. We meet hard seasons with courage, compassion, and an unshakable commitment to each other.
On Saturday, March 21st, a team of island runners will take on the Blackbeard’s Revenge 100-Mile Relay. This race carries deeper meaning this year. Not only are we running in support of Milly as she bravely begins her battle against cancer, but Stephen himself had been training for months to run this race.
Now, we run for him. We run for Milly. We run for the entire King family.
Our charity team includes runners who recently logged miles alongside Stephen at the Buxton Backyard Ultra in January — and now we are lacing up again, this time with an even greater purpose.
Our goal is to raise at least $100 for every mile we run. Every donation will go directly toward easing the unexpected financial burden placed on the King family so they can focus on what matters most — loving Milly and helping her heal.
If you’re able, we ask you to stand with us in supporting Miles for Milly. Let’s show the King family the strength of this community.
Because no family fights alone.
Ashley shared this heading into Milly’s first day of chemo.
“This battle will be long.
This battle will be hard.
But this battle will be fought, and it will be
WON.”
It’s time to rally. And it’s almost time to run.
