My name is Dario Molina, and this November 1st, I'll be running the TCS New York City Marathon, the biggest marathon in the world, for the very first time.
I was blessed to be selected from the Non-Guaranteed Entry Drawing, and when I found out, I didn't want this effort to just be for me. It felt right to use every step of it to do something bigger.
This is why I'm fundraising for Trinity Human Services Corporation (THSC), a non-profit in Brooklyn, NYC that has been fighting food insecurity in the neighborhood since 1981.
About 15% of the city's population, (that's over one million New Yorkers) experience food insecurity. In the Williamsburg/Bushwick area, nearly one third of residents live in poverty, and more than one third of households receive SNAP benefits — significantly higher than the citywide average.
Emergency food visits in NYC rose 83% from 2019 to 2024, putting the city's emergency food system under unprecedented strain.
THSC is on the front lines of this fight, with the food pantry serving 5,500 individuals and families each month, providing nutritious and fresh free food.
The THSC food pantry is the only emergency food program in the area open four days a week, Tuesday through Friday, giving working families a real opportunity to access help. In total, THSC helps 50,000 needy New Yorkers every year through their food pantry, social services, and clothing programs.
For every dollar we raise for THSC, a neighbor gets to walk through the pantry doors and choose food for their family with dignity.
I'll be posting training updates here leading up to race day. Follow along, cheer me on, and if you can, please donate. And if you're in the area, consider signing up to volunteer on their website!
With gratitude,
Dario
