My name is Dan Murray and my twin brother Matthew has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The disease causes progressive weakness as muscles break down and the body fails to regenerate them. There is no cure. Most people with the disease do not live past their early 20s. Matt and I are now 33.
At a young age he started losing his strength, making even routine activities such as walking impossible. Matt has always wanted to experience life just as others do and has accomplished many great things over the years as long as his body has allowed him. He's a college graduate, sled hockey national champion, disabled athlete of the year for USA Hockey in 2015 and current president for the Buffalo Sabres Sled Hockey Organization.
Matt also founded Miles for Matty in 2015. A non-profit spreading awareness of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy through the fulfillment of bucket list items of individuals with various physical disabilities, acquiring adaptive equipment, and hosting events within the community.
Matt and I have now set a new goal. We are teaming up with the Muscular Dystrophy Associations Team Momentum, Hoyt Running Chairs, and the PACE Running Team out of Buffalo, NY to run the Buffalo, Chicago, New York, & Boston Marathon's over the span of the next 12+ months. We have been officially entered in the Buffalo Marathon this May and Chicago Marathon this October where I will be pushing Matt in an adaptive running chair. We hope to take this all the way thru New York and Boston in 2027 spreading awareness of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and raise as much money as we can for the Muscular Dystrophy Association!
All funds will go towards a custom made running chair by Hoyt Running ($6,650) and the Muscular Dystrophy Association's Team Momentum fundraising requirements for entry into Chicago ($2500) , New York ($4000), and Boston ($12,000).
