Mile 15 - a B.C. Road Trip Comedy Movie

Hi, my name is Ben, and I'm the Producer for an upcoming independent movie called Mile 15. I'll be heading the production in B.C. with E.K. Braffet, the film's writer and director. We're really excited to invite you on this journey of making this film with us.

Please check out our pitch trailer above! Then come back here.

Here's our film's outline: Eight years ago, Marty was voted "Most likely to become a pop-star" in her high school yearbook. But she has yet to become anything even close. In fact, she’s unemployed and without education, still living with her mother. So she’s quick to take the opportunity when an old acquaintance asks for her help on an upcoming music album. She convinces her best friend Bill to drive her to California. Along the way, they pick up three strange hitchhikers: A mysterious individual named Scab (who might have committed a crime?), a friendly and encouraging musician named Banjo-man Joe, and a glowing young woman who has been dead for nearly thirty years. Each character offers a new experience for Bill and Marty. And ultimately, the two best friends come to the understanding that it really is about the journey, not the destination.

Here's a creative statement about the film from E.K.: there is a lot of pressure on young adults these days, telling them that they constantly need to be moving forward. Media often tells people that they need to be intentionally working towards fame and fortune if they want to be worth anything in life. Marty — the film's main character — is in her mid twenties, and is both unemployed and unable to drive. The story of Mile 15 takes a more realistic and compassionate approach towards characters who aren’t “moving up the ladder” in this world of grindsets and material gain. It depicts stagnancy as the natural force it is. This is a message which we do not see nearly enough in the media.

We roll cameras in June 2025, with our seasoned crew and talented cast. This is our company's — Starless Sky Productions' — fourth film after several previous successful crowdfunded productions. Since we're young, we've had difficulty attracting investors. Our last productions were mostly funded from our own pay-cheques from minimum wage jobs, with an additional small portion covered by our crowdfunding backers. This time, our plan is the same — because we're nuts — but we're being upfront about our costs. Our fundraiser goal this time is $15k, CAD, which is our projection for how much this film will cost to make. Making a film requires a lot of work. Our last film had around 40 volunteer cast and crew members. We like to make our film sets nice places to work, which means paying for food, lodging, travel, equipment, etc. Your contribution will go towards those costs. We're making the movie whether we raise funds or not, but your contribution will help us more confidently make production decisions without worrying as much about the impacts to our personal bank accounts. We're hoping for your kindness, and the willingness of B.C.'s community to support local artists.

If you contribute, you'll also receive a pre-release screener of the film via email, when it's ready in mid-2026.

On behalf of E.K., myself, and our cast and crew, thank you for helping us bring Mile 15 to the screen.
