If you don’t already know me, my name is Miki, and this is about my sweet cat, Appa.

I wish we were on GoFundMe under different circumstances, but we’re here because we need help.

Appa is a 4-year-old domestic shorthair mix who I found as a tiny kitten in the spring of 2021. Since that day, he, his sister Pacha, and I have been inseparable. We’ve built a life together full of love, play, and purring naps. But now, Appa is fighting for his life.

In late March, everything changed. Appa suddenly stopped eating, began throwing up in bed, and lost all interest in playing. Even Pacha couldn’t be in the same room with him anymore. We rushed him to the vet—twice—and were eventually told his kidneys were failing. Worse, he also has severe anemia and an underlying heart disease that complicates his treatment.

Because of the heart condition, treating his kidneys requires delicate balance—the fluids needed to help his kidneys could put too much stress on his heart. Meanwhile, his anemia required multiple blood transfusions, which were especially difficult because Appa has a rare feline blood type.

After 3.5 days in the hospital, the vets were unable to determine why his kidneys were failing. They told me he could come home—not because he was better, but because he wasn’t getting worse. He’s now on five medications, with no guarantee of recovery, but Appa has a fierce will to live and is doing his best every day to fight.

The current medical bills are roughly $9,300, not including earlier vet visits and tests. His medications alone cost over $300 for just 10 days. I’m doing everything I can, but I simply can’t afford this on my own.
