On Febraury 16, 2017 at 6:20 pm, Mikhail Viktorovitch Gubarev passed away after a long battle of cancer and ARDS. Mikhail Gubarev was diagnosed with Stage 4 Head and Neck Cancer "squamous cell carcinoma" in August of 2016. He fought a hard battle and almost made it through all of his treatments. This January, he was admitted to Huntsville Hospital for pneumonia and sepsis. The sepsis spread around his body and ended up spreading specifically to his mitral heart valve. This in turn caused ARDS. After long weeks in the MICU, it came to a point of no return. His will stated that he wanted to not be held on life support and wanted to pass in comfort. That was when the final decision was made to let him pass on to no longer be in pain.

Mikhail V. Gubarev worked for NASA as a civil servant from 2007-2017. He made many contributions to the area of physics from published research articles, inventions, and conference papers. With that, the Gubarev family has decided that instead of friend's sending flowers in his memory, we would like instead to donate money to this GoFundMe. We - the Gubarev family - will donated this money to UAB's Comprehensive Cancer Institute and a research program at NASA or a scholarship in his memory.
