My son, Mikey Scoopo is 28 yrs old and along with his brother Bobby, was born with CYSTIC FIBROSIS.  Mikey’s condition has now progressed to the point where the only hope for a longer life is a double lung transplant.  My son Bobby lost his fight in 2007 at the age of 21.  I also lost my wife to brain cancer when Mikey was 17. I’ve been working about 60 hrs a week to try to provide as best I can for Mikey. At age 64, it’s starting to take its toll on me.  This is putting additional stress on Mikey because I’m all he has left and he is always worrying about me.

Mikey has to take a variety of medications and nebulizer treatments that need to be done in order to thin the mucus that continues to build up in his lungs.  It is also common to see an IV line in Mikey’s arm to administer heavier doses of additional drugs. Mikey also had diabetes which he has to contend with. The disease has taken the energy from my son and the transplant is going to happen soon.  As per the lung transplant program of Columbia Presbyterian it is mandatory that we reside in NYC for a minimum of 3 months (likely longer) depending on Mikey’s recovery. This puts me in a position where I will not be able to work and will be without any income, but will have to maintain a residence in NYC while continuing to pay to keep our home in Derby, CT.  This is going to cause a heavy financial toll on us. 

PLEASE HELP US!  His situation does not need to end up like his brother Bobby’s.  Mikey deserves a chance to live.  Aside from any medical expenses not covered by insurance, we will be using any donations for daily living, renting an apartment in NYC, furniture, transportation and maintaining our home in Derby, etc.  Every penny donated will be put towards the welfare of Mikey’s wellbeing.
